Mahanandhi Temple Complete Details | Maha Nandi Temple address Location | Mahanandi temple details history Palangal | Pooja Mahanandi |
The place where Lord Shiva was specially favored by Nandi, who was seated in front of the shrine in all the Shiva sites, is the Mahananti Temple near Nandi, Andhra Pradesh.

Nandi means a person who pleases others. The name is especially applicable to the god Nandi, who is the vehicle of the Lord. Shivaberuman, the hero of the universe, has given him a lot of powers because of the name Nandi. It is believed that Nandi, the first guru of the world, taught the Vedas to many gods including Anangan, Indra, Soman and Gandharvas. Nandi devar, who is in the vehicle and flag of Lord Shiva, is white in color. Dharma, the symbol of virtue, purity and masculinity, is the vehicle of Lord Shiva. Shiva and Parvathi are both in the form of Ananda.

Nobody can stand beside Nandi devar in the forehead of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva offered such a gift to Nandi. On the basis of this, the place where the Lord was specially favored by Nandi, who was seated in front of all the shivatas, before the Sunni, was the Mahananti temple near the Nandilaya of Andhra Pradesh. Many years ago, the Silad Maharishi resided in an ashram between arched woodlands in the Nallamalai range. He wanted to have a son after him to worship Eesan. Silatha Maharishi prayed to Maheswaran to grant him a child. By the grace of Lord, two sons were born: Mallikarjunan and Nandanan. The eldest son, Mallikarjun, thought of Mallikarjun in Sri sailam and meditated. By that, he had the gift of drinking in his heart. The youngest son, Nandanan, taught his father the Vedas and Upanishads and meditated on Kailanathan. Lord Shiva showed him, "What do you want?" Nandanan replied, "I want to give you a great gift that will always serve you." Shiva, feeling the love that was in Nandan's heart, blessed him to be his vehicle and qualified him to be the leader of his past moments. Since the gift of Nandi is such a gift, Mahanandhilam is known as the land of Nandi. The linga is worshiped in the form of a linga, which is formed during Nandanan's penance. In this head, Lord Mahanandeeswara is displayed. Shuku, sugar, butter and all three are made purely for Lord Shiva. Built by Nanda Chakravarti in Kaliyuga, this edifice has been expanded by several kings at different periods. The temple was enlarged by the Chalukyan kings in the 7th century and the kings of the Nanda dynasty who ruled the region in the 11th century. Simmadevaraya, the brother of Krishnadevaraya, one of the Vijayanagara kings, has paid special attention to the temple. The Nawab of Kurnool, who ruled the region in the 17th century, has made annual donations to the Mahanandi Shivaratri festival. In the sanctum Nadhigeshwara is in the west direction. Since the Swayambhu Lingam, devotees can anoint the Lingam themselves. Nandeswara is in the form of a broken cancer of the cow's leg, without the complete linga. From its center, the water erupts and rises. Its pedestal is located at the bottom of the floor. In front of the Nandeswara Sannidhi, Nandi, who takes pride in the head, always looks to the Lord in great form. The head of the head is Sri makanandeswara and Ambika Srikameshwari.

Nine Nandhi Temples ( Nava Nandhi)

There are nine Nandi Stations along with the Nandi Nandi, Brahma Nandi, Lord Nandi, Soma Nandi, Shiva Nandi, Vishnu Nandi, Lord Ganesha, Nandi Nara, Nandi Nandi, and Nandi Nandi. These nine heads are called Nandi Mandala. The hero of these nandis, Lord Shiva Mahanandeswara in Mahananti, is. Brahma Nandi Tala is located near the Nandial Railway Station. Naga Nandi is located in the Anjaneyar Temple, west of Nandial. Surya Nandi is east of Nandiyal. Shiva Nandi is situated at a distance of about 14 km from the town of Kandamala. Garuda Nandi is located just west of Mahanandhi and Vishnu is about two kilometers from Mahanandhi. Soma Nandi is located near Admakur west of Nandial and Vinayaga Nandi is Maha Nandi. It is the pilgrims' belief that those who see the neo-nandis in the evening and the dusk in the evening reap the benefits of the earth.

Location This place is situated at a distance of 16 km from Nandiyal in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh.

About Panguni Uthiram - A little detail

Panguni Uthiram, falls in the month Panguni (March-April). This month is special because of the star Uthiram and pournami occurring together. Besides, it is on Panguni pournami Uthiram that the marriage of Parvati and Parameswara, Muruga and Devasena, and Andal (also known as Kothai) and Rangamannar took place. Again, Valmiki’s Ramayan says it is on this day and star that Sita’s marriage with Rama was celebrated. From Brahmanda Puranam we learn that on Panguni Uthiram every holy water joins Thumburu teertha, one of seven sacred tanks in Tirupati Tirumala. The ancients chose Uthiram to convey to humans that it is for underlining the glory of grahasta dharma (married life) that the Almighty manifests in the marital state as Uma Maheswara, Sita Rama, and Radha Krishna – despite his changelessness, sans childhood or youth or old age. The Lord is indeed a Nitya Kalyana Murthi. It is our duty to celebrate this day when the Lord, in both Shiva and Vishnu temples, appears to devotees in his married state.
Palani's most important festival is Pankuni Uttiram. This ten-day event at the Tiru Avinankudi temple, at the foot of the hill occurs in the off-season and so agriculturists and other rural folk participate in it and give offerings of paddy to the temple. On Panguni Uthiram, in all places where Lord Subrahmanya has a temple, his devotees carry in a kavadi the requisites for puja for him, in fulfilment of vows. Such vow fulfilment by devotees carrying kavadis is a special feature of Subrahmanya temples wherever they happen to be.

On each day, the utsava deity of Muttukumaara Swami along with His consorts Valli and Teyvanai is taken in procession in the forenoon and again at night. On some days, the procession covers the Giri Veedi around the hill of the temple of Lord Dandâyudhapaani. Groups of trained Tevaram musicians sing Tiruppugazh and other hymns in chorus at these processions. The deity is mounted in chapparam, ivory palanquin, Kamadhenu, golden peacock, goat, silver elephant, silver chariot, golden horse and other vahanas (carriers) at street level and on the fifth day in the golden chariot atop the hill.

In short, Pankuni Uttiram is a festival that has to be seen to be believed.

12) BHAIRAVA KONA, ANDHRA PRADESH

Bhairava kona is located in Ambavaram Kothapalli village, Cs Puram madal of Prakasam district. It is 120kms from Ongole. Reaching Bhairava Kona is not so difficult. Reach Ambavaram Kothapalli. Buses are available from 5:30 AM till 10 PM. Bhairavakona is a forest area between 3 hills.

Bala Bhairava is the Kshetra Palaka. As Bhairava is a small child Durg Devi came here as Swayambu. Bhargava muni did tapasya here so Lord Siva came here as Swayambu. Lord Siva is called as “Bhargaswarudu”. It is believed that by visiting the Sasi Naga Lingam present here, our Naga Dosham will be removed. Devotees do 16-128 rounds (Pradakshinas) around the temple. Due to the order of Balabhairava, snakes and animals in this place do not harm devotees.

Another intresting feature that attracts devotees to Bhairava Kona is that moonlight falls on the idol of Durga Devi on the day of Karthika Pournami (full moon day).

8 temples are carved out of one rock and Lord Siva appears in 8 different forms.

1. Sasi Nagalingam
2. Rudra
3. Visveswara
4. Nagarikeswara
5. Bhargeswara
6. Rameswara
7. Mallikarjuna
8. Pakshamalika Linga

There is a beautiful water fall located at Bhairava Kona. Many devotees visit this temple on Kartika full moon day & on wenesday.

13) SARPAVARAM, ANDHRA PRADESH

Sarpavaram is 6kms from Kakinanda. Sarpavaram temple is dedicated to Bhava Narayana Swamy. The story of this temple is narrated in Brahma Vyvarta Puranam. The great saint Agstya narrated this story to Saunaka and other saints in the Nymisharanyam (forest).

Kasyapa Maharishi married Kadru, to whom thousand serpents were born. Kadru asked her sons to go and embrace the tail of white horse of Lord Indra, so that she would make Vinata, the second wife of her husband as her slave. But they disobeyed to do so & were cursed by Kadru.

Ananta is one of the sons of Kadru, went around in search of a suitable place to do penance for Lord Vishnu by whose mercy he wanted to save his life. Lord Vishnu was pleased & appeared before him as Bhava Narayan Swamy and let Ananta to serve him as a comfortable bed for him.

This is said to be the place where Takshaka (snake) killed Parikshith. Visiting Bhava Narayan Swamy having LakshmiDevi in his heart increases the compatability between the couple. Earlier when Buddha came here   snake named Muchalinda gave shade under its hoods (padaga).

This temple is in Singarayapalem, Mudinapalli Mandalam, Krishna district, Andhrapradesh. The main deity is a five .headed snake . In 1954 one Devine snake came to Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple Lake from Babaji Mattam and took its bath and was going back, and then it was seen by the two farmers. They threw stones at it.

Devine snake killed itself by hitting its head (to the ground). Villagers buried the body of the snake on the bank of a Chavurupalem lake.  The two farmers who threw stones lost their eyes. Farmers relaised their mistake and asked the snake to forgive them and they got their eyes back. On the same day night snake came into dream of the villagers and ordered to build a temple.

Next day morning villagers took out the body of the snake and were going as procession in the surrounding four villages. At one place they saw one black (kapila) cow coming out separately from the crowd and went to the lake near Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple and took bath in it and it did pradakshinas and started to dig the land there.

Villagers were surprised to see this and thought that place to be apt to construct a temple and brought the body of the snake and they performed the remaining customs. They built a temple there. Earlier it is called as Nageswara Swamy temple. Now temple was under taken by the endowment department of Andhra Pradesh. Temple was renovated and they changed the name as Valli Devasana Sametha Subramanya Swamy.

Devotees suffering from Naga Dosham for marriage do Pradakshinas and perform Abishekam for 5 Tuesdays. It is proved that they get married before the 5 th Tuesday. Childless couples are also blessed with children they come to the temple after the birth of the child. Abishekam ticket is Rs 50/-.

PANCHARAMALU

PANCHARAMALU (Lord Siva temples) located in different parts of Andhra Pradesh .

PURANIC HISTORY OF PANCHARAMALU

When Lord Shiva killed Thripurasura with Pasupathasthra .The SHIVALINGA which was worshiped by him was made into 5 pieces. They fell in different places. Lord Shiva told Devathas to install them at the places where they fell immediately as they start growing there itself. The places where they are installed are called as PANCHARAMALU. There is a belief that it is good to see all five Pancharamas in a single day.

Five Pancharamalu are

As Lord Siva ordered the Devathas to install the pieces of Linga at places where they fell, Indra went to the place where large portion of the Linga fell, by then itself that portion started growing in the form of Sivalinga. Lord Indra installed it on Asvija shudha dasami and worshipped the Linga .As Indra installed the Linga that place  is called by his name as Amararamam (Amaravathi). Lord Shiva is called as AMARESWARA.  33crores Devathas worshipped there to get the power to defeat the demons(Asura's.or Rakshasa's).
As river Krishna is flowing there it became theertha. Those who bath in Krishna river and worship Amareswara will get fruits of doing 1000 Yagnas, many Vagpayayagnas and Donating thousands of cows to a Brahmins. It is believed that those who visit this temple will not have Rebirth (next janma).

2) DRAKSHARAMAM

Another place where the portion of SivaLinga felt is Draksharamam.

God:   Bhimaswaraswami

Goddess:   Manikyambadevi
Theertha:  Saptha Godavari
Kshetra Palaka: LakshminarayanaSwamy

Draksharamam is also known as Dakshavatika earlier. Unlike other  Pancharamas this Pancharamam has a specialty, it is also among the  Trilinga Ksetras (Srisailam, Draksharamam, Kaleswaram) and  Draksharamam is one among the 18 Shakthipeetas (Manikyamba Devi). It is said that Sankaracharya asked Manikyamba Devi  to turn her  eyes to sides as she is very powerful and people cannot bear power of the her eyes seeing straight . Draksharamam is also called as Dakshina Kasi. As Kaasi is Mukthi Kshetra , Draksharamam is both Boga and  Mukthi Khsetra .We can get details of  Draksharamam in Skanda Puranam.

PURANIC HISTORY OF DRAKSHARAMAM :

Here Daksha Prajapathi  performed Yagna so it is called as Drakshavatika. Daksha Prajapathi is father of  SathiDevi, wife of LordSiva. He wanted to perform an Yagna. He invited  all gods and goddesses to the Yagna other than Lord Shiva and SathiDevi. SathiDevi wanted to see the Yaga and asked Lord Shiva also to accompany here. Lord Shiva refused to accompany here, so she alone went to Dakshavatika. There she was insulted. She created fire by rubbing her toe to the Earth and sacrificed her life.

Lord Shiva got angry and he created Veerabadhra Swamy from his Jatajuta and  asked him to destroy Drakshavatika. After Drashavatika is destroyed, Lord Shiva took the body of SathiDevi on his shoulders and started to do Layathandavam.  Inorder to cool down Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu has cut SathiDevi’s body into 18 pieces by his Sudarsanachakra. The places where they fell are called as ASTADASA SHAKTHIPEETALU.

The place where Dakshayini (SathiDevi) sacrificed her life, LordSiva  came as Swayumbuvu(self manifested) as BhimaSwamy and he was first worshiped by God Sun.

THEERTHA :

At the time of installation of Swayambu Bhimeswara Swamy, Saptarishis wanted to get Godavari which is flowing 10kms away from Draksharamam. They thought to bring Godavari with them to Draksharamam, another rishi, called Thulya thought Godavari would destroy his Yagna if Saptharishis do so. As fight started between them, Vedavyasa Maharihsi  solved the problem, by telling them that Godavari will be flowing under ground until it reaches Drakshavatika and there it will come out as a Puskarini by the name Sapthagodavari.

By the time Saptharishis came to Draksharamam Swayambu Bhimaswara Swamy got installed by him self as it is getting late and God Surya did Abishekam to Bhimeswara Swamy first, with the Saptha Godavari water.

It is said that in evening times as fresh air comes over this Godavari, Lord Shiva will be in relaxed position and all the snakes (ornaments of Lord Shiva) will eat the air coming from this Godavari(in our Sastras it is said that snakes eat the air coming over the water) and Lord Shiva is also in happy mood .So our prayers will be fulfilled easily at that time.

ASTA SOMESWARULU

In Draksharamam, to calm down the anger of Lord Shiva, Lord Chandra installed 8 Someswara temples around Draksharamam. They are Kolanka, Venturu, Kotipalli, Vella, Damgaru, Korumella, Someswaram, Penumalla. There are also separate Shivalingas and Devi temples for each Rasi and for each Nakshatra Padam separately.

we can worship them by our own, according to our Rasi and our Nakshtra Padam to get rid of problems. First worship by Nama Nakshatra, or by birth star and then go to RASI LINGA and then go to Draksharamam and get rid of ILL EFFECTS OF GRAHAS.
