Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi Washed Away in Kedarnath Flood Waters June 2013 | Photos and Videos of Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi in Kedarnath

Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi which was built in the eighth century has also faced the wrath of devastating floods. Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi which was in the premises or surroundings of Kedarnath Shiva Temple was blown away by the destructive cloud burst in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

Two statues of Shankaracharya, a sphatik linga and a Hanuman statue were swept away. What remains are just some remants of the structure. Several nearby ashrams were also washed away.

Except Kedarnath Shrine, everything else is destroyed in Uttarakhand floods around the ancient Temple which is one of the temples in Chardham Yatra. The temple is one of the four sacred sites on the Char Dham pilgrimage and is said to have been built over 1,000 years ago by Adi Shankara.

Believed to be a seat of Lord Shiva, it is located on the bank of Mandakini river at an altitude of 3,581 meters in the Himalayas, about 225 km north of Rishikesh.
