Shani Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Lord Shani, the god of justice. Shani Jayanti is also known as Shani Amavasya or Shanishchara Jayanti. Lord Shani is son of Lord Surya and rules planet Saturn and weekday Saturday.

Shani Jayanti falls on Amavasya of Jyeshta month.

It is to be noted that Shani Jayanti is celebrated in a grand manner in many temples such as all Navagraha Temples in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Sri Kalahasti Navagraha Temple, Mandapalli Mandeshwara Swamy Temple, Wargal Shaneeshwara Temple in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh.

It is to be remembered that Sani Jayanthi is the most important festival in Shani Shingnapur Shaneshwara Mandir. In these said temples, a lot of rites and rituals are performed on Shani Jayanthi day so all the devotees can participate in these activities.

The ancient Shani temple is located in Ahilya Nagari, in the district of Indore, in the state of Madhya Pradesh in Central India. Among the important Shani temples of India, this temple is the most sought-after Shani temple of Amavasya devotees.
