Attukal Bhagavathy Temple Pongala in Kerala Live

Attukal Pongala Festival is one of the most famous temple festivals celebrated in Kerala, at the Attukal Devi Temple premises in Trivandrum.

AttukalPongala is festival dedicated to Atukal Devi and celebrated at AttukalDevi or Attukal Bhagavathi Temple, Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum, Kerala. AtukalPongala is observed during Malayalam month of Kumbham (February – March).

On This auspicious AttukalPongala festival day, women devotees offer Pongala or the boiled rice to the presiding deity, Goddess Parvati or Attukalamma, in the Attukal Devi Temple.

Attukal Pongala festival celebrates the victory of Good over Evil, by the slaying of Pandyan King.

Women cook Pongala in the temple premises and offer to the Goddess with utmost fervor.

The 2011 Attukal Pongala Festival begins on 11th February 2011 and ends on 20th February 2011. The Ponkala festival starts with Kannaki Charitam (the musical rendering of the story of the Goddess Kannaki or Parvati Devi) during the "Kappukettu ceremony". The Kappu Kettu ceremony is on 11th February. The Kuthiyottam vratham for young boys will start on 13th February 2011. Attukal Pongala ceremony is conducted on the auspicious day of Malayalam nakshatram Pooram, which coincides with poorinma (full moon day). On all days of the Attukal Pongala Mahostsavam there will be musical concerts, Hindu devotional bhajans, ballets depicting folk and temple arts, as well as many other cultural events.
