Funeral Video: Actor - Director Manivannan Passes Away | Manivannan Tamil Director and Actor Death news | Actor Manivannan Family Wiki Details

Manivannan, Tamil actor-director passed away at the age of 59 at his residence in Chennai on Saturday following a cardiac arrest, family sources said.  He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Manivannan started his career as an assistant with well known director Bharathi Raja and in 1982 directed his first movie ‘Gopurangal Saivathillai’.

He also acted as a villain in ‘Kodi Parakkuthu’ directed by Bharathi Raja, which had superstar Rajnikant playing hero.

His 50th and last directorial venture was ‘Nagaraja Cholan MA, MLA’, released in May this year.

The audio launch of the movie was his last public appearance.

The character artiste also essayed the role of a comedian in several movies, including ‘Ullathai Allithaa’.

The film fraternity expressed shocked at his demise and many flocked to his residence to pay their last respects.

Famous Tamil actor and director Manivannan, 59, breathed his last on Saturday in Chennai after suffering from cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife, son Raghu and daughter Jyothi. Manivannan passed away at his residence in Nesapakkam.

Manivannan hailed from a small town in Coimbatore. He had acted in more than 400 films. In his acting career, he has done many different roles including comedy roles, supporting characters or villain roles. He has excelled in all the regions he had attempted into.

In late 1970s, he started his film career in Tamil film industry by writing stories and dialogues for some of the films of his mentor Bharathiraja including “Alaigal Oayvathillai”, “Tick Tick Tick” and “Nizhalgal”.

He had also assisted Bharatiraja in some of his films in various languages including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. He had directed nearly 50 films and some of the known films are “Gopurangal Saivadhillai”, “Nooravathu Naal” and “Amaidhi Padai.” Other noted films directed by Manivannan include “Pudhu Manithan”, “Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi” and “Jalli Kattu”.

His last film as a director was the Sathyaraj starrer “Nagaraja Cholan MA, MLA” which was released in May. The film is a sequel to the superhit “Amaithi Padai.”

In the field of acting, Manivannan had been acting character roles and had won the hearts of millions of people. He usually plays hero’s uncle or father in most of the films, Manivannan will be remembered for his roles in Tamil films such as “Mudhalvan”, “Sangamam” and “Ullathai Allitha”.

Several members from the film fraternity have offered condolences to the actior’s family.

Actor Siddharth tweeted: “The great Manivannan sir is no more. Many lives in cinema are what they are today because of him. Writer, director, actor…gone too soon. RIP”.
