On 17 June 2013, the state of Uttarakhand received more than 340 millimetres (13 in) of rainfall due to flash floods and cloudbursts which resulted in landslides in various districts across the state.
The rains left 102 people dead in Uttarakhand, almost as many injured, and smashed hundreds of houses. Because of the landslides and rains, over 164 houses collapsed and hundreds others have submerged under soil.
More than 73,000 pilgrims bound for the Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri remained stranded in Uttarakhand.
According to latest media reports, the death toll could easily landup in thousands.
There has been extensive damage to roads in Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi.
The districts affected by the floods in Uttarakhand include -
Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri Garhwal, Pithoragarh, Rudra Prayag, Tehri Garhwal, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarkashi.
